A Look Back at November

DATE POSTED:December 18, 2024
For American Quarter Horse Association competitors, November is the month they’ve been anticipating most throughout the horse show season.

For some, November signals the start of two of the biggest events of the year: the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity and the National Reining Horse Association Futurity, both of which wrap up in December. It is also during November that exhibitors of some of the best Quarter Horses in the world get to try their hand at winning a coveted golden globe during the elite Nutrena AQHA and Adequan® Select World Championship Shows.

Held October 30 to November 22 at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, this year’s AQHA World Show crowned 99 Nutrena AQHA World champions in Western, English and Halter competitions; 44 Adequan® Select World champions; 85 Adequan® Level 2 champions; 22 AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge Finals champions; and 40 Nutrena Level 1 champions. It featured more than $4.3 million in purse, prizes and exhibitor appreciation.

The top honor at the Nutrena AQHA World Show is the AQHA Superhorse Award, which goes to the horse that earns the most points in three or more Level 3 events in three or more categories during the show. This year, the award went to Sumac Gunnabeflashy (Gunnatrashya x Chics Graceful Whiz), owned by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Leslie Lange and ridden by Lange and AQHA Professional Horseman Bud Lyon. The gelding earned 43 points and was the World Champion in Senior Ranch Trail and Open Working Western Rail. He also placed sixth in Senior Reining and was a finalist in Aged Geldings and Ranch Riding.
