Playin Attraction Euthanized Due to Age-Related Complications

DATE POSTED:October 23, 2024

On Oct. 23, the Four Sixes ranch stallion, Playin Attraction, was euthanized on Oct. 18, 2024 due to complications associated with age. Born in 2002, the chestnut stallion made a mark in the world of reined cow horse, accumulating lifetime earnings of $111,705.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) and EquiStat #1 Money-Earning Reined Cow Horse in 2005 had a stellar performance under Boyd Rice at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity being crowned as the Intermediate Open Futurity Champion, where he bested the field in both the herd and rein work portions of the competition and also earned the NRCHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion title. A versatile performer, his achievements also included the Tunica Summer Circuit Open Cutting Futurity Champion.

Sired by Playin Stylish, he was the first performer of dam Ginnin Attraction, by Tanquery Gin. Boyd Rice’s involvement with Playin Attraction’s female family date back to 1998 when he was sent several fillies to start for the National Cutting Horse Association 2-Year-Old In-Training Sale by the resident veterinarian and horse division manager of the Four Sixes Ranch at that time, Dr. Glenn Blodgett. When Ginnin Attraction did not bring the asking price, she was sent home with Rice to train and show. The team earned $28,302 during her futurity and derby year including third place at the El Cid and Kansas Open Cutting Futurities as well as finishing as the Royal Santana Open Futurity Reserve Champion. After her show career she returned to the ranch and produced 16 foals and three to show, all money-earners, including Playin Attraction and his half-brother AQHA Senior Working Cow Horse Reserve World Champion Quahadi, who is also in  training with Rice, is still currently showing and has earned $175,000 and 128 AQHA points across various disciplines.

Throughout his breeding career, Playin Attraction sired numerous successful performers, including AQHA World Champion Versatility Ranch Horse and Ranch Horse Association of America Junior Open Horse of the Year Paddys Prince, American Rope Horse Futurity Association (ARHFA) World Championship Roping Futurity Heading Finalist Intermediate Open Reserve Champion Playin Heatwave, and multiple AQHA Limited Open Ranching Heritage Reserve Champion, Outstanding Choice, and the reined cow horse Open Futurity and Derby Champion, Playin With Pick.

Playin Attraction was laid to rest at the Four Sixes Ranch, where he will forever be remembered for his contributions to the sport and the legacy he leaves behind.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Playin Attraction,” said Dr. Nathan Canaday, 6666 Ranch Resident Veterinarian and Horse Division Manager. “His big personality and remarkable talent have touched the lives of many. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through his offspring and the countless riders who have been inspired by him.”
